Christopher Scanlan

Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC), Ed.S.

I work with older adolescents, adults, couples, and families who are facing challenges that may be affecting their emotional well-being, relationships, or daily lives. Whether you're navigating anxiety, stress, grief, family conflict, self-esteem concerns, behavioral challenges, or a major life transition, I strive to provide a supportive space where you can explore what's happening and work toward meaningful change.

I believe that therapy should feel collaborative, practical, and tailored to the individual. My approach is grounded in building a genuine therapeutic relationship where clients feel comfortable, respected, and understood. Drawing from evidence-based approaches such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I work with clients to identify strengths, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward their personal goals.

My professional experience spans community mental health, family services, school-based counseling, substance use prevention, disability services, and career counseling. Working in these diverse settings has allowed me to support people from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences, while gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges individuals, couples, and families face throughout different stages of life.

I am particularly interested in helping clients strengthen relationships, navigate life transitions, build resilience, and create lasting change. My goal is not only to help clients overcome immediate challenges but also to equip them with tools and insights that support long-term growth and well-being.

As part of the Advanced Psychology Institute, I provide virtual counseling services to clients throughout New Jersey.
